That's what YWAM Recife is doing. Herança Cristã is like a garden for Jesus and each child is a seed.
Our goal is a crop one hundred times what was sown.

We started HERANÇA CRISTÃ school in 2001 as a way to reach into the community. The project is an outstanding success and has influenced thousands of young lives.

Our problem though is funding. We are in one of the poorest regions of North East Brazil and we really struggle to survive. Somehow though God will make a way. Maybe you could help.

We receive some income from school fees but it is never enough. There are many who cannot afford it and we can't simply turn them away. We end up granting a lot of scholarships.

The parents speak very highly of the school because they can see the difference in their children. The kids are loved, guided, educated, taught life skills and of course they learn about Jesus. He's the reason for the project.

From a group who refuse to give up. Yes the message of this website is a plea for help and yes, our situation is sometimes pretty dire.

But we're not quitting. God will speak to some of you reading this.

We just need people and churches around the world to hold the occasional fundraiser for us. It will make such a difference.

This project is on God's heart. We've seen miracles and we've seen His hand on the lives of the children. They are so close to Him.

We are teaching them about Jesus and about their own self worth. In a country where there are so many street children we are contributing to arresting the flow of children to the streets, and into lives of drug abuse, child prostitution and crime.

SO WHAT"S YWAM RECIFE DOING WITH A SCHOOL?

In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost. Matthew 18:14

We came to work with street children because the Father called us. He is brokenhearted for them.

We quickly learned that one of the best ways to arrest the flow of children to the streets was to work with 'Children at Risk'. That's what Herança Cristã is all about.

Nowadays we have a number of ministries working in this area. Herança Cristã is one. We also run a special three month school to train workers how to work with, and minister to children at risk. Our project 'Projeto Amar' works with teen girls. The YWAM Recife soccer club 'Show de Bola' trains and disciples around 120 boys every week.

We continue to visit the street children every week to try to help. Our ministry there is rescue and restoration. We will never desist. For those who want to leave the streets we have an orphanage for girls and an orphanage for boys. And we have the broken heart of the father and Jesus leading us on.

Education can help break the poverty cycle.

* In Brazil more than 40% of children live in poverty, of which 5.8 million live in extreme poverty. 4 million live in slums. Almost 70% of children from 0 up to 3 years old do not have access to public or private day-care centers. 1.6 million students between 15 and 17 years-old drop out of school.

SCHOOL ON A VERANDA AND SCHOOL IN A GARAGE

We decide to start our own school.

We call it Herança Cristã.

In very humble beginnings, a garage and a veranda, we experience a sovereign move of God. So many children want to come to our school we simply don't have enough room.
THE FIRST REAL CLASSROOMS

A church in the heart of Scotland hold fundraisers for Herança Cristã.

The fundraiser Haddington's Got Talent enabled us to build our very first classrooms and ablution facilities. God moves again and we run out of space again.
HERANÇA CRISTÃ SCHOOL BLOCK

A church in Salem sleep in the streets in cardboard boxes.

They win the hearts and minds of the press and a magazine called Elle Girl run a fashion show as a fundraiser. One small church donates their entire building fund. Enough funds are raised to start the school building block.

Christian Heritage School needs what every school needs. Chairs, books, computers etc. We struggle to pay our teachers. Most of the time our team of volunteers simply make do.

We would be so grateful. So will the children. We've had churches hold car wash days, sleep in the streets in cardboard boxes, hold talent quests. All with the common goal to help the children. Every little bit helps. And one day the King will say:

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me." Matthew 25:34-36
